Wichita Falls (to see Scott)
Again, haven't posted in awhile.
On April 5th, 2013, Julie, Garrett and I went to Wichita Falls to see Scott. I insisted on going, and driving because I didn't want Julie to drive all the way there and back, alone with Garrett, pregnant with twins. I just couldn't let her do it. So I went. I drove. I had a good time, I hope they did too.
On the way there, we stopped at Vinita, Oklahoma at the McDonalds that is built right over I-44. Garrett liked looking out the windows at all the "big KUKS" that were going by under the building. He hardly touched his meal he was so excited.
We got to Wichita Falls around 6:00 pm Friday evening. Garrett was so excited to see Daddy, and Julie was happy to see Scott, and so was I.
I wanted to stay in a completely different motel than Scott and Julie. I wanted to be miles away. I wanted them to have this time alone, with each other and with Garrett but we ended up staying in the same motel, 4 rooms apart. I tried to stay in my room and did for the most part, but when it came meal time, Scott and Julie insisted that I go with them to eat. First night, Friday night, they ordered pizza in their room, so I went down to their room and shared it with them.
I wouldn't go to breakfast with them Saturday morning . I had rolls and fruit and coffee in my room and didn't see any need to leave. While they were gone eating breakfast, I walked around the block to a supermarket and got a few items and just checked out the neighborhood. Walking back I picked an iris that was budded out from an abandoned house's yard. Shame on me. I love flowers, especially iris and couldn't resist. I wasn't going to tell them I walked to the supermarket and wouldn't you know it, right as I came in sight of the motel, they were walking up the stairway to their room. I hung back behind a bush until I thought they were in the room, but when I walked out, Garrett saw me and hollered "maw maw, maw maw" and of course they turned around and saw me. They didn't care but wished I would have driven the car. I wanted to walk though.
On Saturday afternoon, we got to take Garrett to the Railroad Museum there in Wichita Falls and he got to get up on a big black engine, looked like ones you see in westerns. There were several different styles of engines and railroad cars we got to walk through. Garrett liked it and we had good photo ops.
After the museum, we drove through a park and saw the Falls, from which Wichita Falls got it's name. Kinda a tongue twister there. Anyway, we saw signs all over the park that said "Do not thrash pecan trees". Hahahaha. We HAD to take a picture of the sign, it was so odd to us. When Julie got out to take the picture she got some odd looks from the "natives". Hahahahaha.
Funny thing when we got back to the motel, the hotel maids were cleaning Scott and Julie's room, and had the door open going in and out. One of the maids was eating a piece of pizza. Julie remarked wouldn't it be funny if the maid was eating their leftover pizza? Well, when they got up to the room, the maid said to them, "I hope you don't care, I got hungry and stole a piece of your pizza..." HILARIOUS! We laughed over that and are still laughing. We could have gotten her into trouble or maybe fired, but we didn't say anything. Julie said maybe she was hungry. I agree.
Saturday night Scott again insisted I was going out with them to eat at McBrides Steakhouse. I went. The food was good.
Sunday morning I didn't go to breakfast with them again. Had the same rolls and fruit and coffee. Didn't go anywhere while they were gone this time-hahahaha.
I stayed in my room most of the day, and so did Scott and Julie and Garrett. Scott had to be back on base by 7:00 so Julie took him back. When she came back, she came down to my room and stayed the night there.
We left Monday morning around 8:30-9:00 and made good time getting home, even with a small detour. At Claremore, Oklahoma, we got off the turnpike and went up old Highway 66 to Chelsea, Oklahoma. That is the town where my dad was born in 1918. I had always wanted to see the town. Several years ago, Dad, Donna and Ginger went on a day trip to Chelsea, just to look it over. They asked me to go with them but I'm sure I had something to do with the kids or was babysitting grandkids or something like that so I didn't go. It was nice to go through there.
Got home around 7:00 that Monday evening. Home sure looked good. We had a great time.
More later.
