Guitar

I want to play the guitar. I really do. I don't think I could ever learn how, but I think it would be neat. I have never been able to play any instrument. I can pick out a few chords on the piano, I can pick out a few notes of songs on the piano, but I can't put everything together to make it sound like a song. It is one of my biggest regrets in my life. Grandpa Toad could play almost anything, and Grandma Laura could play her fair share too, but I wasn't interested in learning when they were alive. It was better to just listen to them I thought. Stupid. I am not alone in that though. I don't know of any of his kids that could play anything and I know Ginger, Steve and I couldn't. Don't know about any of the other sides of the family. Don't think Judy can, or Brenda, pretty sure MOST of the grandkids can't play.

My dad could play the guitar a little bit. I had a toy plastic guitar that I got as a prize for selling Christmas cards when I was around 11-12 and Dad tried to show me some chords on it. It only had plastic strings but it did make a little sound. I couldn't get my fingers to stretch enough to make the chords. Alicia tells me the longer I would practice, my fingers would learn to stretch.

Now my kids...they can play a little. Lynn played .............., Alicia played the flute in band, now she can play the guitar. David played the trombone in band, and  Julie played the clarinet for a little while.

Alicia's family can all play. As I said, she plays the guitar and can pick out some tunes on the piano. Jason plays the banjo, Danielle plays the upright bass, and Hayden....well Hayden can play pretty much anything he picks up. Saxaphone in band, now he plays the mandolin, banjo, guitar, I don't know what all he has tried.

I still want to play the guitar. I would love to be able to pick a tune, play an accompanient for a song I would sing (that's another story..ugh) and just play. But I won't ever learn. It costs a lot of money to buy a guitar of any kind, much less a really good one, and I don't have any money of my own to spend on such a thing. My arthritis in my fingers would probably render me useless anymore...and there is the thing of my age...old dogs and new tricks and all that. Although, a friend of Bob Hammons tried to encourage me to try to learn to play it. He thought I could learn it as he said, "As long as you have life, you can learn".

I guess I just don't want to bad enough, or I would do anything to learn it.

Still, it's a dream of mine.
