Time Flies...Doesn't It???

It has been a long time since I have posted. I was going to post every few days and record the happenings when the twins were in the hospital and came home, but life once again got in the way, and while I was busy living life I didn't make any time to record it. I don't regret it, would rather live the life any time than write about it, but will catch up the blog a little bit on what has taken place since the last post.

My memory is so bad, but Emmett got to come home from the hospital a week and half or so before Makenna did. Makenna was still d-satting and had her feeding tube in and depending on what nurse she had she did good or not so good. I am grateful for every nurse in the NICU, but of course we had favorites. Cheryl Goodall was one of them, and another Cheryl we called the black haired Cheryl because we didn't know her last name. Cheryl Goodall was from Goodhope and although we didn't know her before we met her in NICU, she was from home and that was another thing we liked about her. She just had a way about her, very competent but very friendly and wonderful with the babies, like they were her own. Baby talking to them and loving on them. She made me feel very comfortable in a very uncomfortable situation.

There was Kayla and Dreama who Julie liked a lot also. I didn't meet these two. I preferred to let Julie go see her baby girl while I stayed with Garrett, and then Emmett too, at the Ronald McDonald House. Julie wanted to be with Makenna as much as she could and I was uncomfortable going to the hospital so that worked out well.

One cute thing (out of many) that happened while we were staying at the RMH was the day Scott arrived home there for the weekend after graduating from tech school in Witchita Falls. He had flown from Witchita Falls to Kansas City then gone to Whiteman AFB in KnobKnoster. We knew he was driving down with one of his dad's friends that was also in the Air Force but thought it would be later in the afternoon, around 5-6. Julie and I were taking Garrett out to play on the playground and we had heard the doorbell but it was always ringing and we didn't pay any attention to who was in the foyer. Garrett did though. As we were passing by Garrett started saying "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy" and when we looked around, there stood Scott and his friend Greg in their fatigues. Oh my they caused a stir in the Ronald McDonald House, like something out of a movie. It's a "Navy movie", but of course my "song brain" started singing the chorus from the song, "Love Lift Us Up Where We Belong" from "An Officer and a Gentleman". Hahahahaha.......Garrett was so happy to see his daddy and Julie was so happy to see her husband, and truth be told, I was very happy to see my son-in-law!

We were told that Makenna would get to leave the hospital when she quit d-satting while taking her bottle and if she ate the whole feeding for 24 hours straight. She was getting very close on the night of July 15 and they said she would likely get to go home the next day. It was 11:00 at night on the 15th and we were packing away, doing our laundry and getting ready for a major move out when I got a text from Lynn saying Kassidi was in labor and they were heading to the hospital in Branson. Woooo hoooo, my first great grandchild was getting ready to be born. Oh nooooo.....my jeans were in the washer and I was in my sleeping attire. We had packed light to stay in Springfield and so those were my only pair of jeans I had with me. No way was I going to wear shorts to the hospital so I just had to wait until my jeans finished washing and drying. Finally about 12:30 I was ready to go. I took off for Branson. Julie was going to call Scott's mom to come and stay with Garrett and Emmett the next day.

I got to Branson around 1:30 in the morning and found out that there was plenty of time. At 1:30pm the next day we were still waiting for the baby to be born. Finally late that afternoon, Avery Lynne Laughlin was born. A beautiful, beautiful baby with lots of black hair and she weighed 9lbs 4oz. WOW! She looked huge compared to our little 3 pound twins! After going in to see the proud mama and papa and holding Avery for a little while I headed back to Springfield to help move everyone back home to Bradleyville. Both twins had to come home with apnea monitors to monitor their respiration and heart beats. Julie and I took off in our Jeep with the twins in the back seat. Scott took Garrett in his and Julie's car. We finally got home around 8:00 that evening.

Emmett got his monitor off after a week and Makenna the week after. I think.

Now I am sure I have some of the facts wrong or out of place and I will correct them later when I talk to Julie.

More to come!
