MOM'S OATMEAL COOKIES!

MMMMMMMMM...made my Mom's oatmeal cookies last night and they are worthy of a post!

My mom made, hands down,  the best oatmeal cookies in the world. She got the recipe off a box of oatmeal sometime over 50 decades ago, just a simple recipe, but she turned that recipe into world class cookies. I am not lying, she could have made a fortune if she had lived today and wanted to market them. You might say I am partial, and I admit, I am. But everyone that has ever eaten those cookies, made by my mom, might agree. She was never one to brag on herself, but everyone in the family did it for her. Husband, children, sisters, nieces and nephews, all thought these cookies were scrumptious.

Everybody wanted the recipe for Mom's oatmeal cookies, and she always freely gave it, after all, it was on the back of the oatmeal box.  But, there was something that Mom did to that recipe, because no matter which of us family made the cookies, of course, they were never as good as Mom's. My cousin was sure Mom must have left something out of the recipe when she shared it, or had some secret ingredient she didn't include in the recipe but I watched her make those cookies dozens of times and she made them just like the recipe called for. She DID always say to use the best brand ingredients and it made them better, and I agree, although I have seen her use the NOT so good brands before when she was out of a certain something and they were delicious anyway.

I feel sorry for Julie, my grandkids, nieces and nephews or anybody that never knew Mom and her oatmeal cookies, because they cannot understand just how wonderful Mom was or how good those cookies were. Now practice makes perfect and Mom did make them for years and years, so that has to be taken into consideration. I have come close a few times and so has my daughter Alicia, and we don't make cookies as often as Mom did back in the day, but I think we might be getting there.

I think the secret ingredient Mom used that made those cookies SOOOOO good to anybody that tasted them was a big cup or two of LOVE. Mom loved to make those cookies for her family, her big family that included husband, kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, and anyone else that drifted by. Mom was all about her family, she loved them more than anything in the world and would do anything for any one of them.

So here is the recipe, simple recipe off of the oatmeal box for Mom's Oatmeal Cookies. Hope they turn out as good for you as they did for my Mom. Don't forget the Love.

Mom's Oatmeal Cookies With Love
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pre-heat oven to 350° F
1 cup of veg. shortening (like Crisco, yes, you can use butter but the recipe calls for Crisco)
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups all purpose flour
2 cups quick oats
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup raisins (optional)
Put raisins in small pan, barely cover with water, bring to a boil and turn off heat. Let cool. Meanwhile, cream together the shortening, sugars, eggs and vanilla. Add the flour, oats, baking soda, salt and cinnamon, mix thoroughly. Add the raisins along with the water the raisins were boiled in, mix well.
Spoon onto a lightly greased cookie pan, bake 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned, remove, let cool 2-3 minutes and remove to cool. Makes @ 4-5 dozen
